Size and Fit Guide

We like to put our best foot forward, but are the shoes we wear the best for our feet?

Good shoes (in our books) are defined by their shape, and specifically, the shape of the toe box. A wider toe box allows your feet to move naturally and breathe and accommodates the natural swelling that occurs to our feet throughout the day.

The health benefits of wider footwear can be felt all over your body. Initially, your toes will thank you, for not cramping or constricting them in footwear that confines your feet and in-turn, your movement.

Your lower back, legs, hips, and posture will also appreciate the space you give your toes. Wider footwear encourages total body movement, ensuring your muscles stay active and work harmoniously to support you.

Move more freely and choose footwear with wider toe boxes; your body will thank you for it.

Choosing the right size

Before ordering your shoes, we recommend you measure the length of your feet to find the right size. Our chart provides the total internal length of the shoe in millimetres; match your foot to it using the 5-8mm rule below.

Measuring your feet. Stand with your heel against a wall, foot flat on the floor, and measure from the wall to the tip of your longest toe. Do both feet — they're rarely identical, so go by the longer one. Measure at the end of the day, when feet are at their largest.

The 5–8mm rule. Pick the size whose internal length is 5–8mm longer than your foot. That space lets the foot expand through the day and as the toes push forward in movement — and it's what keeps you clear of friction and "blue nails" from a shoe that's too short.

Between sizes? Duckfeet run a touch short, so size up. The leather softens and stretches in the width as they break in. And factor in the thickness of the socks you'll actually wear.

Wool linings and insoles. Wool-lined boots take more volume you may need to size up. If you're hovering between sizes, our Wool Insoles take up roughly a quarter size. They can be very handy for breaking in the shoe.

Two exceptions. The København and Mols fit a quarter to half size smaller.
